One stem. One clay vase. The restraint of a single flower is its own kind of
confidence. A small clay bud vase with a compact rounded lower body narrowing to a tight neck opening designed for a single stem. Aqua-Lock sealed interior — completely watertight for fresh flower display. Natural breathing clay exterior. XRF-certified. The single stem in a beautiful vessel makes a statement that an elaborate bouquet in a generic container cannot.
Key Features & Benefits
- Aqua-Lock Interior — Watertight: Fresh flowers require a watertight vessel. The Aqua-Lock glaze seals the interior completely. The exterior natural clay breathes — which means the vessel is genuinely cool to the touch, helping keep water slightly below ambient temperature and extending flower life.
- Single-Stem Geometry: The narrow neck holds one stem in position. No florist foam, no multiple stems crowding. One rose. One eucalyptus branch. One protea. The restraint is intentional.
- Clay Exterior Extends Flower Life: The exterior clay’s passive cooling keeps interior water 1–2°C below ambient. This slightly slower water temperature slows bacterial growth in the vase water and delays wilting by 1–2 days versus a glass vase at room temperature.
- Bone Kaolin Interior Visible Through Neck: The pale cream interior reflects light upward through the flower stems and petals — creating a subtle internal luminosity most visible with semi-transparent petals (roses, tulips, dahlias).
- XRF Certified: Batch QR on base.
- Part of the Aqua-Lock Vase Family: Coordinates with the Medium 25cm, Tall 40cm, and Cylinder 30cm for multi-vase arrangements.
About the Material
The terracotta vase exterior is the design decision that no glass or ceramic vase can replicate: it is warm. Literally in colour temperature (the sienna of terracotta reads warm in a way that cool-toned materials cannot) and literally in the tactile sense (clay at room temperature feels warmer than glass or metal because it does not draw heat from your skin on contact). Against a white wall, in morning light, with almost any flower inside — a clay vase makes the composition look considered. This is why every Good Earth store has clay vases. It is why every premium interior designer knows the rule. The Science Fresh-cut flower vase life is primarily limited by two factors: water uptake through the cut stem and bacterial growth in the vase water. Clay vases address both marginally better than glass or ceramic: (1) the slightly cooler interior water temperature from evaporative cooling slows bacterial growth; (2) the slight alkalinity of water stored in clay (pH 7.2–7.5) creates a marginally less favourable environment for bacteria than neutral tap water. The combined effect: flowers in clay vases consistently last 1–2 days longer than in glass vases of equivalent size.

| 1 — First Use | Rinse with plain water. No soap on first use. |
| 2 — Daily Clean | Klayvi Wash Care (pH 6–8) or sisal scrubber + warm water. Never standard dish soap — it destroys seasoning at pH 9–11. |
| 3 — After Wash | Dry completely on low flame (cookware) or air-dry fully (decor/storage). Never store damp. |
| 4 — Monthly | Apply 4–5 drops cold-pressed flaxseed oil to cooking surfaces. Heat on medium-low until just smoking. Cool and wipe. |
| 5 — Never | Dishwasher · Microwave · Overnight soaking · Chemical detergents · Cold water on a hot vessel |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What stems work in the bud vase?
Any single stem cut to 12–14cm (so the neck holds it and the head is visible above). Roses (single head), dahlias, ranunculus, poppies, anemones, cosmos, baby’s breath (single sprig), small eucalyptus branch, dried pampas (single frond).
Q: How do I clean the interior after the flowers have finished?
Empty the water while the stem is still in the vase. Remove the stem. Rinse with warm water, swirling vigorously. For algae or mineral deposits: add warm water with a teaspoon of rice (the rice acts as a gentle abrasive as you swirl), drain, rinse. The narrow neck means fingers cannot reach inside — the rice method is more effective than a brush.
Q: How often should I change the water?
Every 2–3 days. Fresh water + a fresh cut on the stem (3–4mm diagonally) every change significantly extends vase life. The clay helps but cannot replace fresh water management.
Q: Can I use the bud vase for dried flowers?
Yes — dried flowers do not require water, so the Aqua-Lock interior is irrelevant for this use. Dried pampas, dried lavender, dried wheat, dried eucalyptus: all work beautifully in the bud vase. The clay exterior develops its patina even more deliberately with dried arrangement use over years.
Q: Will the clay exterior leave a water ring on surfaces?
The Aqua-Lock interior prevents interior water from reaching the exterior. The exterior breathing moisture (from ambient humidity) is minimal and rarely leaves marks. On very delicate polished surfaces, use a cork coaster under the vase as a precaution.
Q: Does the clay change the colour of clear water?
Very slightly — water stored in the Aqua-Lock sealed vase does not interact with the interior glaze in the same way that water in an unglazed vessel does. The clay exterior breathes but the interior is sealed, so there is no mineral contribution to the vase water. The water remains neutral.
