This is not a planter. It is an architectural decision.

A 35cm diameter XL floor planter for the plants that do the structural visual work in a living room: monstera deliciosa, fiddle-leaf fig, bird of paradise, large ficus, indoor olive. At 35cm, this planter holds a plant with a root ball up to 32cm. XRF-certified. Anti-topple weighted base. Large cork pad set. The piece that makes a room look designed.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Architectural Scale: At 35cm, the clay planter is a floor-level architectural element. It anchors a room corner, defines space, changes the light. The plant above it and the clay below it together become the room’s focal point.
  • Root Space for Specimen Plants: 35cm internal diameter accommodates root balls up to 32cm — covering mature monstera deliciosa, large fiddle-leaf fig, bird of paradise, indoor olive, large peace lily, or any indoor tree at full decorative scale.
  • Anti-Topple Weighted Base: At 35cm with a full-grown specimen plant and soil, this planter weighs 15–20kg. The weighted base design is critical at this scale. The four wide cork pads (versus the single tray of smaller sizes) distribute the weight correctly.
  • Four Cork Pads: At this size, a single cork drainage tray is impractical. Four individual cork pad feet allow drainage, protect floors, and distribute the weight across four stable points.
  • Maximum Clay Breathability: At 35cm, the clay wall surface area is the largest in the range. The plant benefits from the most significant oxygen permeability and humidity contribution of any planter size.
  • XRF Certified: Batch QR on base.

About the Material

The 35cm floor planter is placed once. It is not a vessel you move regularly. The correct sequence: decide the location, position the planter empty, then add soil and plant. Once full, moving requires two people and a plant trolley. The clay body at 35cm has the thickest walls in the planter range — approximately 10–11mm. This wall thickness provides structural integrity for a vessel that must withstand the weight of large quantities of soil (typically 10–12 litres for a full 35cm pot) and the mechanical pressure of expanding root systems. The Science The biophilic benefit scales with plant size. Large indoor plants — monstera, fiddle-leaf fig, bird of paradise at 1–1.5 metres — produce measurably more oxygen, absorb more CO2, and contribute more humidity to the indoor environment than small plants. The research on biophilic benefit in offices and homes consistently finds that one large plant provides more psychological and air-quality benefit than four small plants of equivalent total mass. The 35cm floor planter enables the statement plant that delivers maximum biophilic effect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much soil does a 35cm planter need?
A fully filled 35cm planter uses 12–15 litres of potting mix. For most indoor plants, fill to 3–5cm below the rim to allow watering without overflow. Use a well-draining indoor potting mix — clay’s breathability means you do not need the extra drainage amendments (perlite, grit) that are recommended for sealed plastic pots.

Q: Can the 35cm planter go on a wooden floor?
Yes, with the cork pads in place. The four cork pads prevent direct clay-to-floor contact and allow drainage to evaporate rather than pooling under the pot. For very delicate hardwood floors, add a waterproof saucer under the cork pads. My fiddle-leaf fig is in a 35cm planter and the leaves are yellowing at the bottom. Is it the

Q: pot?
Clay does not cause leaf yellowing. The most common causes in a 35cm planter: (1) overwatering (clay makes this less likely but not impossible); (2) root compaction (check that the drainage hole is not blocked); (3) low humidity in air-conditioned rooms (fiddle-leaf figs prefer above 50% humidity). Clay helps with humidity but the 35cm planter in a dry room may need supplementary misting.

Q: Is the 35cm planter frost-proof?
No. Terracotta is not frost-proof. Repeated freeze-thaw cycling will crack the walls of any clay pot. In Indian climates, this is not a concern for outdoor use. If using in a location that occasionally freezes below 0°C, bring the planter inside during cold spells.

Q: Can I use the 35cm planter as a water feature?
The Aqua-Lock interior below the soil line creates a watertight zone in the lower portion of the pot. For a small contained water garden (aquatic plants, a small fountain), the Aqua-Lock interior could theoretically be extended to create a fully watertight vessel — but this is not the standard product. Contact us for a custom watertight planter if this is a requirement.

Q: What is the best plant for someone who has never owned a large indoor plant?
Monstera deliciosa (split-leaf philodendron) is the most forgiving large indoor plant for beginners. It tolerates low light, irregular watering, and the transition from nursery plastic to clay remarkably well. It grows dramatically, produces instantly recognisable leaves, and in a 35cm clay planter, becomes the definitive room feature.
