A table set for two. In clay. Because meals together matter.

A complete two-person Indian table setting: two 12-inch clay thalis with Bone Kaolin interior, four 150ml katoris, and two 250ml tumblers — all matched from the same clay batch for colour consistency. Premium kraft gift box. Artisan provenance cards per piece. Seed paper insert. XRF-certified. The wedding gift, the housewarming gift, the “we just moved in together” gift that says something specific about who gave it and why.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Matched From One Batch: All six pieces are selected from the same clay batch for the closest colour match possible in hand-thrown pottery. They will not be identical — the individuality is the point. They will be cohesive.
  • Complete Daily Table Service: Two thalis for the full meal. Four katoris for dal, two condiments, raita — two per person. Two tumblers for water. Nothing missing from a complete two-person Indian meal service.
  • Premium Gift Presentation: The kraft box is the right weight and has a satisfying open-close. Cotton muslin wrapping per piece. Seed paper insert with wildflower seeds. Six individual artisan cards. The box itself is a keepsake after the dinnerware is in use.
  • XRF Certified as a Set: One batch QR covers all six pieces.
  • Bone Kaolin Interior on All Food-Contact Surfaces: Every eating surface is sealed, smooth, and non-reactive.
  • Six Individual Artisan Cards: Named artisans for each piece — sometimes the same person, sometimes different members of the same workshop.

About the Material

A dinner set is an intimate gift. It is for the meals that happen every day — not the special occasion, just the Tuesday dinner that is better because you are using things that were made with intention. The two thalis are selected from the same batch first, then the four katoris, then the two tumblers. Each category is matched independently within the batch. The result: a cohesive set where all pieces share the same clay character without being mechanically identical.

The Science

Everyday dinnerware affects the meal experience consistently, not occasionally. If two people eat dinner together 300 evenings a year on clay thalis, the cumulative effect of clay’s heat retention (food eaten at higher temperature is perceived as more flavourful), the visual presentation (cream-white interior makes food more vivid), and the material quality (heavy clay communicates value in the hand) amounts to 300 consistently better dinners per year. Not dramatically better. Genuinely better.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the set available for engraving or personalisation?
Yes — custom name or date engraving on one thali is available for orders placed at least 7 days before gifting. Contact custom@klayvi.in with your requirements.

Q: How do I care for a set of 6 pieces?
All pieces follow the same clay care protocol: no dishwasher, no microwave, no standard dish soap. Warm water + sisal scrubber for the thalis and tumblers. Rinse and air-dry. Monthly flaxseed oil on the exterior terracotta of all pieces. The Bone Kaolin interior glazed surfaces are slightly easier to clean than unglazed clay.

Q: What if one piece breaks? Can I replace it?
Yes. Email us the batch number and the specific piece (thali, katori, or tumbler). We will match from the closest available stock. Perfect colour matching cannot be guaranteed if the original batch is exhausted, but we will source the closest available.

Q: Is the gift box robust enough to ship?
The gift box is designed for hand-carry gifting. If shipping, request the shipping outer carton at checkout — we add an additional outer protection layer for courier delivery of the dinner set.

Q: Are the katoris and tumblers also Bone Kaolin glazed?
The katoris have Bone Kaolin interior glaze. The tumblers have Aqua-Lock interior glaze (slightly different formulation optimised for liquid contact rather than food contact). Both are food-safe and visually similar.

Q: Does the set come with serving spoons?
Serving spoons are not included. Our Silicone Spatula Set (KL-KT-005) is the recommended serving utensil for clay surfaces. Alternatively, any stainless steel ladle or spoon is compatible with the Bone Kaolin glazed surfaces.
