For your raw honey. In the vessel that will not change it.

A small rounded clay jar with an Aqua-Lock sealed interior glaze and fitted clay lid for raw honey storage. 250ml. The interior is sealed because raw honey’s high sugar concentration and natural acidity can, over very long storage periods, interact with unglazed clay — not dangerously, but with a subtle mineral pickup that alters the taste of delicate honey varieties. The Aqua-Lock glaze prevents this. You get the clay aesthetic, the clay material quality, and the correct chemistry.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Aqua-Lock Interior for Delicate Honey: Honey stored in unglazed clay over months picks up trace alkaline minerals that subtly change its flavour profile. For mild, floral honeys (acacia, litchi), this change can mask the honey’s characteristic delicacy. The Aqua-Lock glaze creates a completely inert interior surface that preserves the honey exactly as it was harvested.
  • Non-Reactive at Any Temperature: The clay exterior and Aqua-Lock interior are both completely stable at the temperature range that honey experiences in an Indian kitchen (10–45°C). No compounds migrate into the honey from either the clay body or the glaze.
  • Wide 5cm Mouth for Thick Honey: Raw honey, especially at temperatures below 20°C, is very viscous. The 5cm mouth allows easy spooning even of thick, partially crystallised honey without the jar tipping or the spoon scraping.
  • Clay Crystallisation Management: The clay body’s gentle thermal buffering prevents sharp temperature drops that accelerate honey crystallisation. Honey stored in clay crystallises more slowly than honey in glass or plastic for this reason.
  • XRF Certified: Batch QR on base.
  • Zero Plastic: No BPA, no phthalates, no synthetic polymers in contact with your honey. Ever.

About the Material

Honey is one of the most chemically stable foods that exists — there are archaeological records of edible honey from 3,000-year-old Egyptian tombs. Its stability comes from its high sugar concentration (80%+), low water activity (below 0.6), and natural hydrogen peroxide content. But honey’s stability depends on its container not introducing anything foreign. Plastic containers and acidic honey together create a problematic combination over long storage: the natural gluconic acid in honey attacks the polymer surface and accelerates the leaching of container additives into the oil-miscible honey. For daily-use honey in a household buying 250ml at a time and consuming it within 4–6 weeks, this is minimal. For premium raw honey consumed over months, the clay jar with Aqua-Lock interior is the correct container. The Science Raw honey (unheated, unfiltered, not pasteurised) contains live enzymes (glucose oxidase, catalase), pollen, propolis, and bee proteins that are preserved when honey is stored at ambient temperature in a non-reactive container. These beneficial components are degraded by heat (above 40°C) and potentially affected by plastic compound contact over extended storage. The Aqua-Lock sealed clay jar maintains the ideal storage environment: ambient temperature, non-reactive surface, no light penetration through the clay body.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My honey has crystallised in the clay jar. How do I liquefy it?
Place the clay jar in a bowl of warm water (not hot — maximum 40°C to preserve enzymes) for 20–30 minutes. Stir gently. The honey will reliquefy. Never microwave the clay jar. Never place on a flame. The Aqua-Lock interior is safe in warm water.

Q: Can I store other preserves in the clay honey jar?
Yes — jams, murabba, fruit preserves. The Aqua-Lock interior is food-safe with acidic fruit preserves. Clean thoroughly between uses: warm water, sisal scrubber, air-dry.

Q: Does the clay affect the colour of the honey?
No — the Aqua-Lock interior is completely inert and does not affect the colour, taste, or chemistry of honey stored in it. The pale cream Bone Kaolin interior actually makes honey’s colour more visible and beautiful than an opaque container.

Q: Can the clay honey jar be used for gifting honey?
Yes — a Klayvi clay honey jar filled with premium raw honey is one of the most considered food gifts possible. The jar itself is a piece of craft that will be kept and used after the honey is finished.

Q: How do I clean the honey jar between fills?
Warm water only. Honey residue dissolves easily in warm water. Swirl vigorously, pour out, rinse, air-dry. The Aqua-Lock interior means honey does not absorb into the clay — it cleans off the smooth glaze surface completely.

Q: Is the clay honey jar suitable for large quantities of honey?
The 250ml size is ideal for household daily use. For larger quantities (500ml+), we recommend storing in glass jars and decanting into the clay honey jar as needed for counter use. Keeping 250ml in the clay jar means fresher honey in daily use.
