The table jug. The one that replaces every plastic pitcher you have ever
owned. A clay dining-table water jug with a pour-spout formed from the clay rim during throwing — not a separate beak, not a moulded addition. One continuous clay form. Anti-topple weighted cork base. Aqua-Lock interior. XRF-certified. The replacement for plastic filter jugs, glass decanters that break, anything that was never as considered as a clay jug on a properly set dining table.
Key Features & Benefits
- Pour-Spout From the Clay Itself: The pour-spout is the clay rim, shaped by pulling and forming during throwing. No separate attachment, no joint, no failure point. The pour is controlled: narrow stream, no post-pour dripping because the geometry pulls the water back into the vessel.
- Anti-Topple Weighted Cork Base: The cork base ring extends the effective footprint at a weight (approximately 1.3kg full) that makes stability important.
- Aqua-Lock Interior: Sealed, watertight, inert. The exterior breathes — the jug provides mild evaporative cooling even at 1L, enough to keep dining table water slightly below ambient temperature.
- Infused Water Ready: Fresh mint, cucumber, lemon, ginger — the sealed interior means infused water behaves cleanly in the jug without the clay extracting or adding anything to the infusion.
- XRF Certified: Batch QR on base.
- Zero Microplastics: No plastic filter jug components. No BPA from the container. Just clay, water, and whatever you add to it.
About the Material
The 1L jug is the right size for the everyday dining table: enough to serve 4–6 people with one fill during a normal meal. At 1L with the vessel, it weighs approximately 1.3kg — manageable single-handed for pouring, comfortable two-handed for placing. The pour-spout geometry is worth understanding. Most commercial jug spouts are additions: a beak or lip added to the mould. The Klayvi jug’s spout is the rim itself, shaped during throwing. This produces a spout with no internal corner (a corner where residual water collects and drips) — the curve is smooth, and the surface tension of water on smooth clay holds the last drops in the vessel rather than running down the outside.
The Science
Plastic filter jugs are the standard family water vessel in most urban Indian households. The filter itself is valuable; the plastic container is the problem. Every BPA-free plastic jug is BPA-free because it uses BPS instead — a replacement that has been identified in subsequent research as having similar endocrine-disrupting effects. There is no plastic jug that is completely inert with water over time. Clay is.

Caring for Your Klayvi
| 1 — First Use | Rinse with plain water. Cook something water-based for first 2–3 uses. |
| 2 — Daily Clean | Klayvi Wash Care (pH 6–8) or sisal scrubber + warm water. Never standard dish soap — its pH 9–11 destroys the seasoning layer. |
| 3 — After Wash | Dry completely on low flame for 2 minutes. Never store damp. |
| 4 — Monthly | Apply 4–5 drops cold-pressed flaxseed oil. Heat on medium-low until just smoking (~4 min). Cool and wipe. |
| 5 — Never | Dishwasher · Microwave · Overnight soaking · Chemical detergents · Cold water on a hot vessel |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The pour from the jug is faster than I expected. How do I control it?
Tilt the jug slowly and maintain a low tilt angle for a controlled pour. The pour-spout is shaped for a natural medium flow — not a trickle, not a splash. Tipping the jug more than 45 degrees increases flow rate significantly. For filling narrow glasses, pour at approximately 30 degrees.
Q: Can I put ice cubes directly in the clay jug?
Yes. Ice in the Aqua-Lock sealed interior is fine. The clay exterior will become very cold where the ice presses against the thin wall — the jug will be very cold to the touch in those areas. This is normal.
Q: Does the clay jug keep water colder than a glass jug?
Yes — marginally. The clay’s evaporative mechanism cools the interior water slightly below ambient. For actively cold water, pre-chill the jug in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before filling. For maintaining room-temperature water below ambient throughout a meal, the clay jug outperforms glass.
Q: Can I serve hot beverages from the clay jug?
No. The jug is designed for cold or room-temperature water and infusions. Hot liquid in the sealed interior creates steam pressure. Use the sauce pan series for hot beverages.
Q: Will mint leaves or herbs discolour the interior over time?
Very minor tannin staining from some herbs (green tea, tulsi) is possible with very extended infusion (12+ hours). For daily use with mint and cucumber, the interior remains clean with regular warm-water rinsing.
Q: Is a matching set of tumblers available?
Yes — the Clay Tumbler Set of 4 (KL-DW-008) is designed to pair with this jug for a complete table drinkware system.
