About the Material
The 4-person set takes approximately 3–4 weeks to assemble when each piece must be matched from the same batch. We batch our thalis separately from katoris and tumblers, then select for colour cohesion across the 16-piece set. The result is a set where all 16 pieces read as a family rather than as 16 individual pieces that happen to be clay. The large gift box has a bamboo pull-tab and a natural cotton rope handle on each side for carrying. Inside, each piece is individually wrapped in natural cotton muslin, placed in the assigned position in the box. The box can be repurposed as storage for the set when not in use, or as a general storage box after the pieces have been distributed to the kitchen.
The Science
The case for investing in quality dinnerware is sometimes treated as purely aesthetic. The health dimension is less discussed: the surfaces from which you eat three times a day, 300 days per year, are surfaces with which your food is in direct contact for every meal. Q: Is the 4-person set appropriate for a formal dinner party?
Yes. The 12-inch thali, katoris, and tumblers are all proportioned for formal Indian dining. For a complete dinner party service, pair with the Clay Jug 1.5L (KL-DW-012) as the table water vessel and the Serving Bowl 2L (KL-CK-021) for the central biryani or dal.
Q: Can I add more pieces (additional katoris or tumblers) to the set?
Yes — additional pieces from the same batch can be ordered if stock is available. Contact us within 7 days of your set order and we will hold matching batch stock for you.
Q: Is the set dishwasher safe?
No. None of the clay pieces in this set are dishwasher safe. The dishwasher’s alkaline detergent and high heat temperature will damage the clay body and the Bone Kaolin glaze over multiple cycles. Hand wash with warm water and sisal scrubber only.
Q: What if a piece is chipped in transit?
All sets are inspected before packing and individually cushioned in the gift box. In the unlikely event of transit damage, photograph the damaged piece and the outer packaging and contact us within 48 hours of receipt. We will replace the damaged piece at no cost.
