The desk companion. The PFAS-free office water bottle you’ve been looking
Designed for the desk. The 1L clay water bottle has a wider base than the 500ml and 750ml, deliberately weighted for stability on flat surfaces. Anti-topple cork base ring. Aqua-Lock interior. Linseed-oil exterior treatment protects the clay surface while preserving porosity and the evaporative cooling mechanism. XRF-certified. The full-day office bottle that does not shed microplastics into what you drink.
Key Features & Benefits
- Anti-Topple Weighted Base: The wider base is the result of four prototypes specifically designed to eliminate the “knocked-over desk bottle” problem. A full 1L bottle on a desk that is bumped costs 1L of water and a wet keyboard. The weighted base prevents this.
- Linseed-Oil Exterior Treatment: Cold-pressed linseed oil applied and cured at 150°C seals the outer clay pores without eliminating porosity. Result: a slightly more water-resistant exterior (no desk ring moisture) with a slightly richer colour tone. Evaporative cooling is marginally reduced (1–2°C) — the trade-off for a desk-ready surface.
- Zero Microplastics: PFAS exposure at the office comes from many sources: Teflon-lined paper cups, plastic water bottles, non-stick office kitchenware. Your personal water bottle is one exposure source you can eliminate completely.
- Full-Day Hydration: At 1 litre, fill once in the morning. The evaporative cooling keeps it below ambient temperature throughout the day. Adequate hydration for a typical office day from one fill.
- XRF Certified: Batch QR on base.
- Cork Stopper: Natural, tight-sealing, zero chemical residue.
About the Material
The linseed oil exterior treatment on the 1L is specific to this size for one practical reason: a 1L bottle sits on a desk for 8 hours a day. The natural evaporative moisture on the exterior of an untreated clay bottle forms a damp ring on the desk surface over 8 hours. The linseed oil treatment eliminates this by partially sealing the exterior pores — reducing but not eliminating the evaporative moisture to a level that does not mark surfaces. The treatment deepens the clay colour slightly — the 1L will appear fractionally darker than the same terracotta clay in an untreated 500ml bottle. This is the linseed oil polymerised into the surface.
The Science
PFAS at the workplace is a real exposure concern. A 2021 study found PFAS compounds in the blood of 97% of tested office workers in urban environments, with plastic water bottles identified as one of the top three daily exposure sources alongside non-stick cookware and food packaging. The clay water bottle is one of the most practical single swaps available to reduce daily PFAS exposure for the urban professional.

Caring for Your Klayvi
| 1 — First Use | Rinse with plain water. Cook something water-based for first 2–3 uses. |
| 2 — Daily Clean | Klayvi Wash Care (pH 6–8) or sisal scrubber with warm water. Never standard dish soap — its pH 9–11 strips the seasoning polymer layer. |
| 3 — After Wash | Dry on low flame for 2 minutes. Never store damp. |
| 4 — Monthly | Apply 4–5 drops of cold-pressed flaxseed oil. Heat on medium-low until just smoking at edges (~4 min). Cool and wipe. |
| 5 — Never | Dishwasher · Microwave · Overnight soaking · Chemical detergents · Cold water on a hot vessel |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The 1L bottle has a different texture on the outside than I expected. Why?
The linseed oil treatment gives the exterior a slightly smoother, deeper-toned surface compared to the raw clay of the 500ml. This is intentional — the treatment creates a desk-appropriate surface that does not leave moisture rings while preserving the clay character.
Q: Can I take the 1L bottle to the gym?
Yes, but the 1L is heavier and bulkier than the 500ml or 750ml for carry use. The weighted base that makes it ideal for a desk makes it less ideal for a gym bag. If gym carry is the primary use, the 750ml is a better choice.
Q: How do I refill during the day without the cork stopper dribbling?
Tip the bottle completely upside down over a sink before removing the cork stopper — this prevents any remaining water from coming out suddenly. Remove the cork, fill, replace the cork with firm hand pressure. The cork stopper creates a positive seal that prevents dripping.
Q: Can I write my name on the bottle for office use?
Natural chalk markers work on the linseed-treated exterior and can be wiped off cleanly. Permanent markers also work but are harder to remove. Alternatively, the cotton carry strap can be labelled with a fabric marker.
Q: My bottle was knocked over and the water went into my keyboard. Can I prevent this?
The anti-topple weighted base prevents most knocks. For maximum protection in a high-traffic office, place the bottle to the side of your keyboard rather than directly adjacent to it, or use a silicone mat under the bottle to increase the stability footprint further.
Q: Can I put the 1L bottle in a bag if needed?
Yes, but the wide base means it may not fit narrow water bottle pockets. Measure your bag pocket before purchasing if bag carry is important to you. Most wide-mouth bottle pockets (designed for Nalgene-style wide-base bottles) will accommodate the 1L.
