For clay vessels that are not in use. For produce at the market. For

anything that should not be in plastic. Three natural cotton muslin drawstring pouches in graduated sizes — small (fits kulhads, mugs), medium (fits handi up to 1L, water bottles, surahis), and large (fits handi up to 3L, tawas, kadhais) — made from handloom cooperative-sourced unbleached cotton. Klayvi K-leaf motif in natural terracotta ink on each. Machine washable. Three functions in one set: clay storage between uses, breathable produce bag, general zero-plastic storage.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Clay Storage Between Uses: Every Klayvi vessel ships in a cotton muslin pouch. The pouch protects the clay surface from dust and scratching during storage and seasonal use gaps. Clay stored in sealed plastic develops condensation. Cotton lets the clay breathe during storage, preventing moisture accumulation that weakens the clay body over extended periods.
  • Three Sizes Cover the Full Klayvi Range: Small: kulhads, mugs, tadka pans, bud vases. Medium: handi 600ml–1L, water bottles, surahis, dahi pots, jugs. Large: handi 2L–3L, kadhais, tawas 10–12 inch, floor planters (bag serves as transport protection).
  • Breathable Produce Bag: At the market: the medium and large pouches replace plastic produce bags. The open-weave cotton allows produce to breathe — vegetables and fruit last longer in cloth than in sealed plastic. Drawstring closure for transport. Machine washable between uses.
  • Handloom Sourcing: The cotton muslin is sourced from a handloom cooperative in the Delhi-NCR region. The irregular weave texture — not perfectly uniform, with slight variations in thread density that machine-woven fabric cannot produce — is the visual signature of handloom origin and also makes a structurally stronger fabric.
  • Klayvi K-leaf Print: Screen-printed in natural terracotta ink. The print will fade slightly with repeated washing, which is the expected behaviour of natural ink on natural cotton. This is the patina of use, not a defect.
  • Machine Washable: 30°C cycle. No bleach. Air-dry. Maintain the handloom texture indefinitely with gentle washing. About the Product The cotton muslin is unbleached — its natural off-white cream colour comes from the cotton plant itself, not from chemical whitening. Bleached cotton has a whiter appearance but the bleaching process weakens the cotton fibers and introduces chemical residue. Unbleached handloom cotton is the more durable, more natural, and more appropriate choice for a vessel storage pouch that will be used and washed repeatedly. The three sizes use the same cotton grade and weave — they are cut and sewn from the same bolt of fabric for consistency. The large pouch is reinforced with a second layer of cotton at the drawstring channel to prevent the added stress of a heavy clay vessel from causing the drawstring to tear through. The Science Breathable cotton storage for clay is not just convenience — it is material science. Unglazed clay has a natural moisture content of approximately 3–5% when stored at ambient humidity. In a sealed plastic bag, this moisture cannot equilibrate with ambient air and can accumulate, creating a local high-humidity environment inside the bag. Over months, this can weaken the clay body at the surface level and create conditions for mineral bloom on the exterior. Cotton muslin, at its typical weave density, allows moisture exchange while blocking dust — maintaining the clay at its natural equilibrium moisture content throughout storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use the pouches for storing food?
Yes — the unbleached natural cotton is food-safe. The medium and large pouches are excellent for storing dry grains (in combination with or instead of the clay grain jars), nuts, dried fruits, or herbs. The breathability that protects clay also keeps produce fresh.

Q: Will the terracotta ink wash out?
Natural terracotta ink on cotton fades gradually with washing — the K-leaf print will be less vivid after 20+ washes but remain visible. This is expected behaviour of natural pigment on natural fabric. If print retention is important, wash on a cold cycle (20°C) rather than 30°C.

Q: Can the pouches go in the dryer?
Air-dry is recommended to preserve the handloom texture and prevent shrinkage. If dryer use is necessary: low heat setting only. The cotton may shrink 3–5% on first dryer use — account for this if the fit of a specific clay vessel is important.

Q: The medium pouch is tight over my 1L handi. Is there a larger option?
The medium pouch is designed to fit snugly over the 1L handi — a loose pouch provides less protection during storage. If the fit feels too tight, it may be due to minor manufacturing variation. The large pouch will accommodate any vessel up to the 3L handi comfortably.

Q: How long do the pouches last?
Handloom cotton is durable. With regular use (weekly washing), the pouches should maintain structural integrity for 5–7 years before the cotton fiber shows significant weakening. The drawstring is the most stress-prone component — it may need replacement after 2–3 years of heavy use.

Q: Can I order additional pouches of a specific size?
Individual sizes are available separately in packs of 3. Contact us if you need a specific size set.
