The complete end to Teflon in your kitchen. In one box, on one decision.

The three pieces that cover 80% of daily Indian cooking: the Handi 1L for liquid dishes (dal, curry, khichdi), the Tawa 10 inch for flat breads (roti, chapati), and the Tadka Pan 150ml for the tempering that finishes most dishes. All pre-seasoned. All XRF-certified. All from the same batch so the colour palette matches. With the Clay Care Passport and the First 30 Days in Clay guide. The beginning of a kitchen that is genuinely different from the one you have now.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Three Pieces. 80% of Daily Indian Cooking.: The handi covers dal, curry, soup, khichdi. The tawa covers roti, chapati, dosa. The tadka pan covers the tempering that finishes nearly every Indian dish. Three vessels, most of what an Indian household cooks every day.
  • All From the Same Batch: Colour-matched terracotta: all three pieces from the same clay batch and kiln load. They read as a system on your stove, not as three pieces from different sources.
  • The First 30 Days Guide: Not a generic care pamphlet. A structured 30-day protocol: what to cook in the first week (water-based dishes that build the seasoning), what to cook in the second week (oil-based dishes that test the seasoning), what to cook in the third (everything), and how to re-season at the one-month mark.
  • All XRF-Certified: One batch QR covers all three pieces.
  • Pre-Seasoned and Ready: Three flaxseed oil cycles on each piece before dispatch. Wash once with water. Cook.
  • The Honest Transition Note: Your first roti on the clay tawa may stick. Your first dal in the handi may take 2 minutes longer. By the 10th use of each piece, these differences will have disappeared. By the 30th, you will understand what the fuss is about.

About the Material

The starter kit is designed for the person who has decided to switch and wants to start completely rather than cautiously. Three pieces that work together, in matching clay, with the information to make the first month successful. The handi 1L is the Lite series — 4–5mm walls that heat quickly. The tadka pan 150ml is the minimum size for a proper daily tadka. The tawa 10 inch is the entry size for roti — correct for chapatis and small dosas, upgradeable to 12 or 14 inch later as confidence builds. The Science The first 30 days of clay cooking are where the transition either succeeds or fails. The most common failure mode: expecting clay to behave like non-stick from day one. The second most common: washing with standard dish soap and losing the seasoning before it is established. The First 30 Days guide addresses both failure modes explicitly and directly. Of starter kit purchasers who follow the 30-day protocol, 94% report continuing to use their clay vessels as their primary cookware after 6 months. The guide is not optional; it is the product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: In what order should I use the three pieces for the first time?
Start with the handi: make plain dal (just lentils and water, no oil) for the first 2 uses. This seasons the handi gently with water-based cooking. Then use the tawa: make plain chapatis with a light oil wipe for the first 3 uses. Use the tadka pan from day 5 onward once you have done a few oil-based dishes in the other vessels.

Q: Can I cook for 4 people with this kit?
The handi 1L serves 2–3 people comfortably. For 4 people, you will either need to make two batches of dal or upgrade to the 2L handi after the first month. The tawa 10 inch makes 2 rotis simultaneously, which is manageable for 4 people with some timing. The starter kit is the right starting point; the Core Kitchen Set (KL-CO-002) is the natural upgrade for a larger household.

Q: All three pieces can go on induction?
The handi includes an induction adapter disc. The tawa and tadka pan are best used on gas for initial seasoning; both can use induction with the adapter disc (available separately as KL-KT-003). For daily use, gas is the preferred surface for all three starter kit pieces.

Q: Can the starter kit be a gift?
Yes — the starter kit in its premium kraft gift box is one of our most popular housewarming and wedding gifts. The First 30 Days guide makes it a complete gift rather than three pieces in a box.

Q: What happens after the first 30 days?
The seasoning is established. The handi, tawa, and tadka pan perform at or near their optimal level. At this point: re-season all three once (flaxseed oil protocol in the Clay Care Passport). Explore the rest of the Klayvi range. Consider the Core Kitchen Set (KL-CO-002) if you want to expand.

Q: Is the starter kit available with a 2L handi instead of the 1L?
Not as a standard kit. For custom configurations, contact us at custom@klayvi.in. The standard kit uses the 1L because it is the easiest size to start with for new clay users — faster to heat, easier to manage.
